Hot Chip hold a special place in my heart.
Their first album 'The Warning' was the soundtrack to many a college bus journey, 5 long years ago (now I feel slightly old). Right in the middle of my verging on emo, loving My Chemical Romance but still worshipping Britney Spears (that standard teenage phase we all go through) Hot chip, along with Soulwax (in particular E-Talking) introduced me to a more electronic world.
Now at the time landfill indie was just beginning to dominate the charts, and it was only going to get worse with the rise of Arctic Monkeys. It's hard now to look back, with electronic music planted so firmly in the pop landscape and think how different, how exciting this music could be. With guitar bands having been hijacked my the mainstream, 'alternative' indie nights began spinning Hot Chip and CSS along with The Smiths. It might be that it coincided so perfectly with the start of my uni experience, but songs like 'Over and Over' and 'Ready for the Floor' are classics that will never be passe in my eyes.
Which brings me, rambling done with, to their new single, 'Night and Day'. It's a little bit funkier, bassier, less hypnotic and bleepy, but no less jaunty and full of character. Without further ado:
